Putin Highlights Positive Progress in Russia-Turkey Relations

04 September 2023

Trade turnover between Moscow and Ankara increased by 86% last year, and this positive trend is continuing this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated during a meeting with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"The pace of development of relations between Russia and Turkey, which has been bolstered with your direct involvement, is being sustained. I would like to draw attention to the fact that last year our trade turnover increased by over 80 percent - 86 percent, to be exact. In the first half of this year, the positive trend continues," the Russian leader said.

This trend, as Putin pointed out, "is not as strong as last year, but it remains positive." "Furthermore, our relations are diversifying. It's not just the traditional sectors of our interaction, which include agriculture and energy, but also other areas that are showing development, which I find very encouraging," stated the Russian president.
