Russian President Vladimir Putin is convinced that Russia's Kant airbase enhances security in the Central Asian region.
"This military outpost significantly bolsters the republic's defense capabilities, ensuring security and stability across the entire Central Asian region, while also aiding in the fight against acute challenges and threats like terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, and organized crime," stated the Russian head of state during a press briefing following the Russian-Kyrgyz talks.
Putin, who had presided over the opening of the Kant air base in October 2003, referred to the current 20th anniversary of this military facility as a "significant milestone." He also highlighted the fact that "at this very moment, servicemen stationed at Kant are actively participating in the 'Unbreakable Brotherhood - 2023' peacekeeping exercises alongside the peacekeeping forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, taking place in Kyrgyzstan."
"I distinctly remember the establishment of Kant Air Base. At that time, the Kyrgyzstan leadership reached out directly to the Russian Federation, urgently requesting the deployment of our air wing here. The situation demanded swift and cooperative action, given the attacks by extremist groups and the significant impact it had on the people of Kyrgyzstan," noted the Russian leader. He further emphasized, "Today, this base has grown to hold substantial regional significance."
The Russian head of state mentioned that during the current talks, there was a strong focus on expanding bilateral cooperation in the military and military-technical sectors.
