Putin in a conversation with Abbas stressed the importance of strengthening inter-Palestinian unity

Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the Middle East settlement in a telephone conversation with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. This was reported on Wednesday in the press service of the Kremlin.


"The Russian side has confirmed its principled position in support of a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in accordance with the existing international legal framework," the statement reads. "In this context, the importance of strengthening inter-Palestinian unity is emphasized."


The presidents had a "thorough exchange of views on the issues of the Middle East settlement". In addition, "topical issues of Russian-Palestinian cooperation were discussed, taking into account the agreements reached following the meeting of the two leaders in Bethlehem in January 2020," the Kremlin noted. Putin and Abbas agreed "to continue cooperation in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus infection."


The President of Palestine congratulated his Russian counterpart and the Russian people on the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic war, as well as on the results of the all-Russian vote on approving changes to the Constitution of the Russian Federation.


The conversation was initiated by the Palestinian side.
