Putin Invites Aliyev to CIS and BRICS Events in Russia in October

19 August

Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended an invitation to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to attend the CIS and BRICS events scheduled to take place in Russia in October. Following the conclusion of Russian-Azerbaijani talks, Putin highlighted the alignment of Moscow and Baku's approaches on various issues.

"A number of regional agenda items were also discussed, naturally considering the significant role Azerbaijan plays in the Caspian region and Transcaucasia," Putin stated. He added that the discussions also touched on current international topics. "In foreign policy, our countries firmly adhere to the principles of international law, sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs."

Putin emphasized that Moscow and Baku "closely coordinate their efforts at key multilateral platforms, including the UN and, of course, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS)."

"We will be glad to see Ilham Heydarovich at the meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State in Moscow in October, as well as at the outreach meetings to be held within the framework of the BRICS summit in Kazan this October," Putin said, formally inviting Aliyev to Russia.
