Putin noted Nazarbayev's contribution to the development of friendly Russian-Kazakh relations

Russian President Vladimir Putin during a telephone conversation congratulated the first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, on his 80th birthday, the Kremlin press service reported on Monday.


"During the telephone conversation, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin warmly congratulated the first President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, on his 80th birthday, wishing him good health and inexhaustible energy. It was emphasized that the first President of the Republic of Kazakhstan is highly respected in Russia, including for his invaluable contribution to the development of friendly Russian-Kazakh relations," the message reads.


Putin and Nazarbayev also touched on the situation around the coronavirus pandemic. "Nursultan Nazarbayev thanked the Russian side for significant assistance in fighting the infection," the Kremlin noted. In June, Nazarbayev himself suffered from a disease caused by a new type of coronavirus. He has now recovered and has taken up his duties.


Earlier, the Russian President sent a congratulatory telegram to Nazarbayev.


On July 6, Nursultan Nazarbayev turned 80 years old. Nazarbayev, who has continuously led Kazakhstan for almost three decades, resigned as head of state on March 19, 2019. At the same time, he retained the posts of Chairman of the Security Council of the Republic, the ruling party "Nur Otan" ("Light of the Fatherland"), a member of the Constitutional Council, Chairman of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan, has the status of an honorary Senator.
