Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent congratulations to his Turkmen counterpart Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Turkmenistan's Independence Day. The Neytralny Turkmenistan newspaper quoted the text on Tuesday.

"Please accept my sincere congratulations on the occasion of Turkmenistan's national holiday, Independence Day. Your country is moving confidently along the path of economic and social development. Following the policy of positive neutrality, Turkmenistan is making a significant contribution to security and stability in Central Asia and the Caspian region," Putin wrote.

He also noted that relations between Russia and Turkmenistan, which are based on good traditions of friendship and mutual respect, have reached the level of deepened strategic partnership. "I am sure that through joint efforts we will continue to build up constructive bilateral ties in all directions. This undoubtedly meets the fundamental interests of the peoples of Russia and Turkmenistan," said the Russian leader.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also sent holiday greetings to Berdimuhamedov. "I express my warmest congratulations to all citizens of Turkmenistan on the occasion of Independence Day. This exceptional moment in history reminds us of the need to work together as one human family. Each country must contribute to solving problems that go far beyond their national borders - from the COVID-19 pandemic to deepening poverty, inequality and injustice, the climate emergency and conflicts engulfing our planet," he noted.

President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, the leaders of Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Ukraine, Poland, the Republic of Korea, Mongolia, Singapore and Algeria also sent congratulations to the leader of Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan will celebrate the 31st anniversary of its independence on September 27. The country became independent in 1991 when the Supreme Soviet of the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic adopted a constitutional law "On Independence and the Principles of State Structure of Turkmenistan" as a result of a nationwide referendum.
