Russian President Vladimir Putin issued an order to prepare and sign an agreement with Tajikistan on the creation of a joint regional air defense system of the two countries. The document was published Monday on the official Internet portal of legal information.

"To accept the proposal of the Government of the Russian Federation to sign an agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan on the creation of a joint regional air defense system of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan," the document reads.

It is noted that the Russian Ministry of Defense with the participation of the Russian Foreign Ministry was put in charge of negotiating and signing the agreement.

"To instruct the Russian Ministry of Defense to hold negotiations with the Tajik side with the participation of the Russian Foreign Ministry and, upon reaching an agreement, to sign on behalf of the Russian Federation the said agreement, allowing to make changes in its draft approved by the Russian government that are not of a principal nature," the order said.

On April 27, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said during talks with Tajikistan's Defense Minister Sherali Mirzo in Dushanbe that a draft agreement on the creation of a joint regional air defense system of the two countries was prepared to improve the reliability of state border protection in the airspace.
