Putin Outlines CIS Priorities

Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that combating terrorism remains one of the top priorities for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and expressed hope that the current summit would approve a new cooperation program on deradicalization.

 

"A key focus of our joint efforts within the Commonwealth continues to be the fight against terrorism, extremism, organized crime, drug trafficking, and corruption," Putin stated during the CIS summit. He added, "This is supported by established operational cooperation between the security and competent agencies" of CIS countries. As an example, he mentioned the recent CIS exercises conducted in Uzbekistan.

 

Putin also highlighted the significance of the initiative by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to develop a CIS program on deradicalization. "I believe we will approve this program today," he addressed the summit participants.
