Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated acting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on his victory in parliamentary elections, noting that difficult issues can only be resolved with the trust of the people, and he has it.

"I am glad to have an opportunity to meet with you and talk about all issues of concern to us, and I would like to personally congratulate you on the results of the elections. I think it is important for everyone, first of all, of course, for Armenia, for the Armenian people," Putin said during a meeting with Pashinyan in the Kremlin on Wednesday.

He said that in order to solve complex, very acute and sensitive issues, it is necessary to work effectively, and for this "the most important thing is to have the trust of the people."

"And you have it. It's shown by the election results. And it's very important - in fact, it's the most important thing. At such difficult times in the life of the country, this is probably the most important condition for further development. So I really congratulate you on that", he added.

Early parliamentary elections were held in Armenia on June 20. 21 parties and four blocs took part in them. According to the final data of the CEC, the Civic Contract party of the acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan won with 53.91%; the bloc Armenia of the former President Robert Kocharyan gained 21.9%; the bloc I Have Honor of Serzh Sargsyan got 5.22%. Although the latter failed to get the required 7% of votes, according to the law it will get into the parliament since the presence of at least three political forces in the legislature is mandatory. The CEC said that Pashinyan's party would get 71 seats in the new parliament and the Kocharyan and Sargsyan blocs would have 29 and 7 seats, respectively.
