Russian President Vladimir Putin described his meeting with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov as constructive.
"[The meeting] was constructive. Of course, when relations are in a rather hot phase, it is not easy to find some points of contact, but nevertheless, I think we managed to do it. In any case, we have agreed that all measures will be taken to avoid a resumption of hostilities. Secondly, which is very important, the parties will take the necessary steps for the return of refugees," the Russian president said Friday at a press conference following his visit to Kazakhstan, answering a related question from TASS.
"And the third, also an essential, important element, is that we, without claiming any mediatory role, although, frankly, we were asked to do so, agreed that both one and the other side will give us the relevant documents and their vision for solving this problem, and we will not only try to assess these proposals from our side, but will also use the documents at our disposal to find solutions, which could form the basis of possible agreements," - continued Putin. - "I mean, Moscow sometimes has even more reliable information about the borders between the Union republics than the Union republics themselves. We'll pull up these documents, pull up these maps, look at them, and together with our colleagues we'll then look for a solution."
"So all in all, this meeting was very useful," the Russian president concluded.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov earlier said that the trilateral meeting of the leaders of Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the sidelines of the Astana summit on Thursday was initiated by Vladimir Putin.
