Russian President Vladimir Putin said there are attempts from outside to hinder ties between Russia and Central Asian countries, to break cooperation in politics, economy and humanitarian sphere.

"The increasingly complicated situation in the world and in the region also prompts us to activate all mechanisms of interaction between us. [There are] attempts from outside to hinder the development of our cooperation in many areas, to break the honest ties and close cooperation in politics, economy and humanitarian sphere that have been formed throughout history," the Russian head of state said, speaking at the first Russia-Central Asia summit in Astana on Friday.

"Now, really, really coordinated joint steps of our countries are needed, both to increase the alliance and strategic partnership, and to improve the sustainability of our economies," Putin said.

He thanked the participants of the meeting separately for supporting the initiative to hold such a summit. "It is clear that relations between our countries are built in various directions and in various formats, we are constantly in contact, in direct communication," the president of the Russian Federation said, adding that contacts take place in the framework of various associations, among other things. "We can always consult with each other and adjust problems that may arise," he continued.

Putin expressed hope that the new format of communication would also be useful and "bring added value."
