President of Russia Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have discussed in a telephone conversation the issues of improving the humanitarian environment in Syria and normalizing the situation in Libya. This was reported by the Kremlin press service on Thursday.
“The exchange of views on the Syrian issue continued. The priority tasks of improving the humanitarian environment in Syria were noted. At the same time, the Russian side stressed the inadmissibility of politicizing issues concerning the provision of foreign aid to the Syrian people, restoration of socio-economic infrastructure and the return of refugees”, the statement says.
Discussing the situation in Libya, Putin and Merkel welcomed the formation of central transitional authorities in that country. “A willingness to assist in the normalization of the situation and peaceful development of Libya were expressed. It was agreed to continue coordination in this direction”, the Kremlin stated.
The conversation between the leaders of Russia and Germany also touched upon the situation in the Balkans. “The importance of further coordinated steps to ensure stability and interethnic harmony in Bosnia and Herzegovina was stressed, in particular taking into account the decisions of the council steering committee on the implementation of the 1995 General Framework (Dayton) Peace Agreement”, the press service of the Russian leader said after the conversation.
