Western countries seek to maintain a world order that benefits only them, constantly inventing rules and breaking them themselves. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) on Wednesday.

The Russian president said that "irreversible, one might say, tectonic changes" have taken place in the entire system of international relations. "The role of dynamic, promising states and regions of the world has significantly increased, and above all, of course, the Asia-Pacific region, its countries have become new centers of economic and technological growth, points of attraction of personnel, capital and production," he added.

"Despite this, Western countries are trying to maintain the old, profitable to them only world order, to force everyone to live by the proverbial rules, which they themselves invented and regularly violate themselves, constantly changing these rules for themselves, depending on the current situation," Putin said.

The Russian president stressed that the unwillingness of other countries to submit to such dictate and arbitrariness forces Western elites, simply put, to break down, make short-sighted, adventurous decisions both in terms of global security, politics, and in terms of the economy.

"All these decisions run counter to the interests of countries and peoples, by the way, including the citizens of the Western states themselves," the Russian president pointed out. - "The separation of Western elites from the interests of their own citizens is increasing."

"The level of industrial development in Europe, the quality of life of people, social and economic stability - all this is thrown into the furnace of the sanctions furnace, is spent at the behest of Washington in the name of notorious Euro-Atlantic unity, but in fact is sacrificed to preserve the dictatorship of the United States in world affairs," Putin stressed.
