Russian President Vladimir Putin will discuss the new Russian foreign policy concept with the permanent members of the Security Council (SB) on Friday, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
"Today [the president] will have a rather important meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council, because the agenda today includes a report by Foreign Minister [Sergey] Lavrov on the new Russian foreign policy concept," the Kremlin spokesman said. "This meeting is planned after 2 p.m. [Moscow time]," he added. "We'll see what happens in open mode, but at least we will hear the president's words in this case," Peskov promised.
The press secretary also clarified that the president is having a working day in the Kremlin, and the head of state will have a number of other closed-door meetings after the meeting with members of the Russian Security Council.
In January 2022, the draft of a new version of the Russian foreign policy concept was put on the agenda of the president's meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council, but it was sent back for revision after the discussion. In the fall, the Russian MFA and the SB reported that the new version of the document was being finalized and agreed upon. The Russian Security Council also indicated that it would reflect a new approach to relations with the West. In December, Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the draft updated concept at an operational meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council.
Earlier, the president said that the new version of the concept would outline the main aspects of Russia's diplomatic and foreign policy work. According to Putin, this document, together with the previously approved national security strategy, will serve as a road map for the foreign ministry and other ministries and agencies.
