Putin to Hold Around 20 Bilateral Meetings at BRICS Summit in Kazan

10 October

Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to hold about 20 bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, starting October 21. This was announced by Yuri Ushakov, Putin’s foreign affairs advisor, who expressed sympathy for the president given the intense schedule ahead.

“An event of a such scale, like the BRICS summit, cannot go without a significant component of international engagement, which includes bilateral meetings. In my opinion, we already have more than enough planned,” Ushakov remarked. He added with a touch of humor, “I already feel the need to express some sympathy for our president.” According to Ushakov, “We anticipate around 20 bilateral meetings, not only with major and key countries participating in the summit but also with others.”

Ushakov emphasized that Putin’s schedule is packed with meetings, starting even before the official summit. “We’re not only beginning on October 22; we’re kicking off on the 21st. These bilateral meetings will continue late into the evening on October 24,” the Kremlin representative noted.
