Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to meet with the head of Turkmenistan's upper house of parliament and former president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during his visit to Russia.
"I know that Gurbanguly Myalikgulyevich is planning to visit Russia at the invitation of Valentina Matvienko, chairman of the upper house of the Russian parliament. He will also have a meeting with the State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Viktorovich Volodin. I'd be glad to meet with him in person. This meeting will certainly be arranged," the Russian leader said on Thursday during talks with the son of the former president of Turkmenistan, the current president of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
He drew attention to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's great personal contribution to the development of relations between the two countries. "I would ask you to give him your best wishes. He has done a lot, and, as you know, we have appropriately noted these merits. The order, the state award is called "For Merit to the Fatherland." In this case, the Order of Merit for the Fatherland is awarded both to Turkmenistan and Russia at the same time," Putin said.
In August, Russian President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was awarded the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland", IV degree. He received the award for "his great contribution to strengthening the strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan."
Today's meeting was held on the margins of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Samarkand.
