Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks on Friday, June 10, with new President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov who will arrive in Russia on a visit, the press service of the Kremlin said on Thursday.
"During the talks, a full range of issues of further development of bilateral cooperation in the political, trade-economic and humanitarian spheres, as well as topical regional and international topics are planned to be discussed," the statement reads.
The Kremlin added that the meeting "will include the signing of a declaration on the deepening of strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan".
It is noted that Berdimuhamedov will visit Russia at the invitation of Putin, this will be his first official foreign visit after taking office as president of Turkmenistan.
On March 15, the Turkmen Central Election Commission reported that the early presidential election of March 12, Serdar Berdimuhamedov won with 72.97 percent of the vote. Earlier, his father Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was the head of state.
In his congratulations to Serdar Berdimuhamedov on his election as president, Putin expressed confidence that his work "will contribute to further building of the whole complex of constructive Russia-Turkmenistan relations." The Russian leader emphasized that "this undoubtedly meets the interests" of the friendly peoples of the countries and is in line with the strengthening of peace, security and stability in Central Asia and the Caspian region. In addition, in May, Putin signed a decree awarding Berdimuhamedov with the Order of Friendship.
