Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to meet with the heads of major media outlets from BRICS countries ahead of the upcoming BRICS summit in Kazan, scheduled for October 22-24.
Putin maintains a regular dialogue with both domestic and international press. His most recent engagement with international media took place in June, when he answered questions from the heads of global news agencies during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. That session, organized by TASS, included media representatives from countries such as China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Turkey, South Korea, Italy, Germany, France, Japan, and the CIS, with TASS's general director, Andrey Kondrashov, representing Russia. The discussion touched on key issues, including international relations, the conflict in Ukraine, Western sanctions, cultural ties between Russia and the EU, and US policy.
Earlier this year, Putin granted a two-hour interview to American journalist Tucker Carlson at the Kremlin in February. He also provided written interviews to Xinhua in May, ahead of a state visit to China, and to the Mongolian newspaper Onoodor in September before visiting Ulaanbaatar. Putin frequently engages with the press during his foreign and regional trips, and he traditionally holds a large end-of-year press conference.
BRICS Business Forum
Yury Ushakov, the president's aide, earlier revealed that Putin is expected to speak at the BRICS Business Forum on October 18. Video messages from the heads of BRICS member states are also anticipated during the event.
Russia currently holds the BRICS chairmanship for 2024. The summit in Kazan will be the first to include new member countries. Previously, BRICS consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. As of January 1, 2024, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia will officially join the group as full members.
