05 December 2023

The Kremlin's press service has announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud and President of the United Arab Emirates Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during his working visits on December 6.

"During the talks with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the agenda will include a discussion on the current state and prospects for the further development of diverse Russia-UAE cooperation. Additionally, the parties will address relevant international issues, with a particular focus on the situation in the Middle East region," the statement conveyed.

In Riyadh, the Kremlin reported, the Russian leader will engage in discussions with the crown prince of Saudi Arabia covering "issues of bilateral cooperation in trade, economic, and investment areas, as well as various aspects of collaboration in multilateral formats." The agenda also includes an exchange of views "on matters pertaining to the regional and international agenda."

As reported by Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, discussions on oil will be a part of the agenda during the visits. While acknowledging that such talks typically occur within the OPEC+ framework, Peskov highlighted that the heads of state, including Putin, will also engage in discussions on this topic. Additionally, Peskov mentioned that Putin's visits to both countries will essentially take place "practically in one day."

This marks Putin's first visit to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia since 2019. During his previous visit in 2019, the Russian president held talks with the heads of states in Abu Dhabi and Riyadh.
