Putin to speak at SPIEF, meet with Algerian President

16 June 2023

Russian President Vladimir Putin will spend two busy days in St. Petersburg. During this time, the head of state will have an international meeting, and he will also make a big speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). This was announced by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian leader, a fragment of an interview with whom journalist Pavel Zarubin published in his Telegram channel.

"Yes, every time the St. Petersburg Economic Forum comes with a rich program. The president has an international contact planned," said the Kremlin spokesman.

Then, he said, "around 2 p.m., we expect [the president] to arrive at the forum itself, where he will deliver his speech." "President of Algeria [Abdelmadjid] Tebboune will also address the forum. Then there will be a panel discussion. This event is always quite lengthy and very, very informative. We will be waiting for assessments of the economic situation in Russia, the prospects as the president sees them," the spokesman specified.

After that, Peskov said, Putin has several more events planned for the day.

"Then he will spend the night in St. Petersburg. [On Saturday] he has a meeting scheduled with representatives of African states who will be in Kiev on Friday, and then they come to see Putin in St. Petersburg. And there will be another event, but of an internal nature. So the schedule is quite tight," concluded the Kremlin spokesman.
