07 September 2022

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin will take part in the opening ceremony of new and reconstructed sections of several highways, including the Moscow-Kazan highway, the Kremlin press service said.

"On September 8, 2022, Vladimir Putin will take part in the opening ceremony of roads in a number of regions: highways M-12 and M-5, as well as the Yekaterinburg Ring Road via video link," the statement reads.

According to Kremlin, the first section of M-12 highway to be put into operation will be 23 km and will connect the Central Ring Road and the Moscow Ring Road. In addition, 40 kilometers of the reconstructed M-5 highway between Yekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk will be opened, resulting in four lanes of traffic on the whole route between the two cities, the report reads. The third start-up facility of the Yekad will loop the circular automobile traffic around the capital of the Sverdlovsk region.

"The new road sections not only ease the traffic load on the transport network in some regions, but also facilitate long-distance transportation, being an integral part of the general transport corridor from St. Petersburg to Chelyabinsk and Tyumen," the Kremlin stressed.
