Russian President Vladimir Putin told his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron about the stabilization of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and the deployment of a Russian peacekeeping contingent there, the Kremlin's press service on Monday following a telephone conversation between the leaders.
"Vladimir Putin informed about the Russian side's active mediation efforts to stop the bloodshed and avoid new victims, as well as the deployment of the Russian peacekeeping contingent along the line of contact and the Lachin corridor. It was noted that the statement of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia and the Prime Minister of Armenia dated November 9 is being implemented, the situation in the region as a whole has stabilized," the report says.
The leaders of the countries stressed the need to address urgent humanitarian issues, including the return of refugees to their places of permanent residence and the preservation of Christian churches and monasteries.
"Expressing their readiness to coordinate the work of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs - Russia, France and the United States - the leaders stressed the importance of addressing urgent humanitarian issues, including the return of refugees to their places of permanent residence, ensuring conditions for a normal living of the population, restoration of infrastructure, preservation of Christian churches and monasteries," the report says.
The Presidents also discussed issues of joint counteraction to the terrorist threat. "Some issues of bilateral cooperation were touched upon, including in the sphere of joint counteraction to the terrorist threat," the report says.
As noted in the press service, the parties gave a positive assessment of the talks held in Moscow on November 11-12 by French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin with the heads of relevant Russian departments.
