Russian President Vladimir Putin briefed his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the progress of a special military operation in Ukraine in a telephone conversation, the Kremlin press service said Monday.
"Vladimir Putin briefed on the progress of the special military operation to protect the republics of Donbass. The president of Uzbekistan spoke with understanding about the position and actions of the Russian side," the report said.
Putin and the president of Uzbekistan confirmed their mutual interest in strengthening strategic partnership and alliance. "The parties discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation, including the implementation of agreements reached following the Uzbek president's visit to Russia in November 2021. The heads of states exchanged congratulations in connection with the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan," the statement said.
The Kremlin said that the sides confirmed their "mutual interest in further strengthening of strategic partnership and alliance between the two countries, expanding mutually beneficial ties in political, trade and economic, humanitarian and other spheres".
The conversation took place at the initiative of the Uzbek side, and the leaders agreed to continue contacts.
