Russian President Vladimir Putin wished Nursultan Nazarbayev, the first president of Kazakhstan, a speedy recovery after the surgery. This was announced by Press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.

Earlier, Nazarbayev's press secretary Aidos Ukibay said that Kazakhstan's first president had a heart surgery, which was successful.

"Undoubtedly, the president wishes Nursultan Abishevich a speedy recovery in connection with the operation, as we learned, which he had. We in Moscow also wish him a speedy recovery," he told reporters Friday, when asked whether Putin had conveyed such wishes during a telephone conversation with his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev.

According to Ukibay, Nazarbayev's life is not in danger and he is now under medical supervision. The surgery took place at the National Scientific Cardiosurgical Center under the guidance of the famous cardiac surgeon Yuri Pya.

Nazarbayev, 82, is the first president of Kazakhstan (1991-2019). In March 2019, he signed a decree resigning at his own request. His successor as head of state was Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
