Pyrotechnicians of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations discovered and neutralized nearly 1,000 ammunitions in Karabakh

Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations' pyrotechnicians have found about 1,000 explosive objects as part of the humanitarian demining of Nagorno-Karabakh territory, the ministry's press service told TASS on Monday.


"Pyrotechnicians of the combined detachment of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations in Nagorno-Karabakh continue surveying the territories near Stepanakert. Since the beginning of the work, they have demined more than 24 hectares and found about 950 explosive objects," the press service said.


A large quantity of ammunition was found in the village of Aygestan: more than 300 artillery shells of various calibers, almost 50 fragments from Grad MLRS, as well as several mortar mines and anti-tank missiles "Malyutka". The ammunition is being handed over to the Humanitarian Demining Center for disposal.


On September 27, the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh escalated and active fighting started on the disputed territory. On November 9, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a joint statement on the full cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. The document provides for the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in the region. On November 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on establishing an inter-departmental center of the humanitarian response to Nagorno-Karabakh. The center was composed of representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Security Service and other interested federal executive bodies. The Ministry of Defense was entrusted with the solution of organizational issues.
