Qatar Calls on the International Community to Resolve the Conflict Between Israel and Hamas

24 October 2023

Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani has appealed for the cessation of the armed conflict between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas, a conflict that has resulted in civilian casualties. He made this statement during his address at the opening of the 52nd session of the Consultative Council, Qatar's unicameral parliament.

"The killing of innocent people is intolerable, regardless of their nationality or which side they belong to. We urge the countries in the region and across the globe to take a resolute stance against this escalating crisis, which threatens the security of the Middle East and the entire world. We also implore for an end to this conflict, which has surpassed all reasonable boundaries," stated the emir. He continued, "We want to pose a question to those responsible for this war, those who refuse to consider any alternative paths: 'What lies ahead after this? Will there be peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians? Where will the Palestinians turn after the war?' The Palestinian people endure, along with their suffering. Following this war, we will only be left with sorrow, a mounting toll of casualties, and, in its wake, an overwhelming sense of injustice."

"The sole path to ensure stability and security for both communities is to establish an equitable and enduring peace, allowing the Palestinian people to achieve all their legitimate rights as recognized by international organizations. Notably, their right to establish their own state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, must be fully realized," emphasized the Qatari leader.
