Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was expected to send a delegation to Doha on Monday, February 3, to discuss the details of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. However, he failed to do so, reportedly due to his upcoming meeting with US President Donald Trump. This was confirmed by Majid bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, advisor to the Qatari Prime Minister and spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“On the 16th day of the ceasefire in Gaza, the Israeli delegation was supposed to arrive in Doha to begin negotiations on the second phase. However, they have not sent anyone yet. We remain in contact with both Israel and Hamas to ensure their commitment to the process,” Al-Ansari said in an interview with Breitbart.
According to Al-Ansari, Netanyahu wants to meet with Trump first to discuss the Gaza agreement before proceeding with negotiations in Doha. “We expect President Trump and his administration to send a clear signal that they support the negotiation process and the second phase of the deal,” he added.
The Qatari official expressed hope that Netanyahu would immediately dispatch his negotiating team to Doha upon returning to Israel. Talks are expected to resume with US Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steven Witkoff, playing a key role.
“We firmly believe that President Trump supports this process,” Al-Ansari emphasized.
