Qatar to Continue Efforts to Return Russian and Ukrainian Children to Their Families

04 July

Qatar will persist in its mediation efforts aimed at reuniting Russian and Ukrainian children with their families, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani stated during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Astana.

"I am grateful that you have highlighted the humanitarian role played by Qatar. I want to assure you that we will continue to carry out this work. Thank you very much for the trust placed in us regarding the issue of returning Russian and Ukrainian children to their families," Sheikh Tamim said.

The Emir emphasized Qatar's hope that future settlement terms in Ukraine will satisfy both parties involved in the conflict. "We would certainly like this crisis to be resolved, but in a way that would satisfy both sides," he noted.

Qatar acts as an intermediary between Russia and Ukraine for the return of children taken out of the war zone. According to the Office of the Presidential Ombudsman for Children's Rights, 70 children have been reunited with their families in Ukraine and other countries, while six children have been reunited with four families in Russia.
