20 October 2023

Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani recently convened a meeting with his British counterpart, James Cleverly, in Doha. During their discussions, both parties addressed the ongoing developments in the Middle East, specifically in relation to the current escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. This information was reported by QNA.

According to the agency's report, during the meeting, the Qatari foreign minister reiterated his country's position, condemning attacks on civilians and advocating for the immediate opening of humanitarian corridors to aid Palestinian civilians.

The meeting occurred against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the Middle East following the infiltration of fighters from the Palestinian  movement Hamas into Israel on October 7. Hamas describes this attack as a response to Israeli actions concerning the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israel has imposed a complete blockade on Gaza and initiated airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, as well as parts of Lebanon and Syria. Additionally, clashes are ongoing in the West Bank.
