Religious Board: Muslim communities will determine the format of Eid al-Adha

14 May 2020

Taking into account the coronavirus pandemic and its associated restrictions, the Religious Board of Muslims of Russia called on regional Muslim communities to independently decide on the format of holding a festive prayer of Eid al-Fitr (Uraza-Bayram).

"Regional religious organizations will decide on the format of the holiday prayer based on the epidemiological situation on the ground, but always with all possible precautions," the message reads, in particular.

First Deputy head of the Religious Board of Muslims Damir Mukhetdinov, however, called on the regional clergy "not to weaken attention to the threat of the coronavirus and maintain all possible measures to prevent the spread of the infection."

"We Muslims have no moral or religious right to condone the spread of a deadly disease. Muslims are patient and law-abiding. And in this situation, we are called to show the whole society an example of a responsible attitude to the universal threat," the religious figure said.

In Moscow, the holiday prayer, as reported in the Religious Board of Muslims of Russia, will be held "with the participation of a limited number of clergy and employees of the Religious Board."
