Reports: Gaza Ceasefire Between Hamas and Israel Could Be Extended Until Late March

14 March

The ceasefire between Hamas and Israeli forces in Gaza may be extended until the end of Ramadan, which in 2025 concludes on March 29. According to As-Sumaria TV, this proposal is included in an updated US plan presented by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff during ongoing negotiations in Qatar.

Sources indicate that under Witkoff’s proposal, the truce could be extended for at least two more weeks. On the first day of the extended ceasefire, Hamas would be required to release at least five living hostages and hand over the remains of at least nine Israeli captives. Additionally, humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza would resume. The previous US proposal had called for Hamas to release 10 living hostages and return 18 bodies.

According to American representatives in Doha, this two-week extension would provide time for both sides to negotiate terms for a longer ceasefire. If an agreement is reached, all remaining hostages in Gaza would be released before the implementation of a full cessation of hostilities.

Current reports estimate that 59 hostages remain in Gaza, with 22 still alive—including one American citizen—while 35 are confirmed dead. The fate of two others remains uncertain.

As-Sumaria’s sources claim that Israel has reacted positively to the revised proposal, while mediators in Qatar await Hamas' response.
