Riyadh and Damascus have agreed to create conditions for the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland. This was stated in a joint statement issued following talks Wednesday in Jeddah between Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad.

"The parties agreed on the need to resolve [current] humanitarian problems in Syria, create suitable circumstances for the delivery of aid to all regions of Syria, prepare the necessary conditions for the return of Syrian refugees and displaced individuals to their home areas <...> and allow them to return safely to their homeland, and take additional measures to contribute to stabilizing the situation in all Syrian territories," said the statement, the contents of which were cited by the Saudi Press Agency.

In addition, Saudi Arabia and Syria supported restoring consular services and air service between the countries.

"The two sides welcome the start of procedures for resuming consular services in the two countries and air service between the two states," the foreign ministers stressed in the statement cited by the Saudi Press Agency.
