Rossotrudnichestvo to Enhance Interaction with Africa in the Field of Education

11 December 2023

Rossotrudnichestvo will develop clear approaches to strengthening cooperation with the African continent in the field of education, Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo Pavel Shevtsov stated during a discussion at the Valdai International Club on the dialogue between Russia and Africa.

"There is no doubt that the African continent represents the future. We are entirely confident in this vision, and we observe it. Here at Rossotrudnichestvo, being a pivotal agency for advancing Russia's humanitarian policy, we are outlining clear directions and tasks that we, as an agency, need to address," - Shevtsov stated. - "Primarily, this involves the educational track, as it plays a foundational role in shaping the entire humanitarian policy, not only for Russia but also for other foreign nations."

According to him, Rossotrudnichestvo has "doubled quotas for the African continent" over the past two years. "Of course, we fully coordinate this policy with the Russian Foreign Ministry, because for us, the quota is an instrument of foreign policy influence, of Russia's humanitarian presence abroad. We see now a huge interest that African children have in getting an education in Russia," he emphasized.

In addition, Shevtsov drew attention to the Russian language program. "A person will learn Russian only if it gives him some 'bonus points.' From the point of view of education, business, science, and civil society development, if young people from Africa understand that all the projects implemented together with the Russian Federation will move 'up the ladder,' then only in this case they will learn Russian," the deputy head of Rossotrudnichestvo added.
