18 June 2021

Rostec transferred a batch of 8,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine to Egypt as humanitarian aid, the state corporation said in a statement.

"Enterprises belonging to Rostec State Corporation sent a batch of the Sputnik V vaccine to the Arab Republic of Egypt free of charge due to the difficult situation related to the spread of COVID-19 in the country. A total of 8,000 doses were delivered to vaccinate 4,000 people," the statement said.

The plane with the humanitarian cargo landed at Cairo airport on Thursday, June 17.

"We expect that the supplies of the Russian vaccine will help Egypt in the fight against the pandemic," said Rostec's head Sergei Chemezov, who was quoted in the report as saying.

The state corporation added that trade turnover between Russia and Egypt now amounts to tens of billions of dollars, and a significant part of it is made up of Rostec products.
