Rostourism is working on possible ways to solve the problem of using Mir cards in Turkey

29 September 2022

Possible solutions to the problem of using Mir cards in Turkey are being worked out, Rostourism is monitoring the situation. The head of the agency, Zarina Doguzova, said this in her Telegram channel.

"Possible ways of solving the problem are now being worked out," she wrote.

Doguzova noted that Rostourism is monitoring the situation with Mir cards in Turkey. "The reasons are clear - these are attempts by a number of countries to block the work of the Russian card abroad," she noted.

The head of the department recalled that foreign partners independently decide whether or not to accept the Mir card in their infrastructure.

Private Turkish banks Is Bankasi and Denizbank announced on September 16 that they would stop accepting Mir cards following a statement by the US Department of Treasury about their intention to impose sanctions for supporting Russia's attempts to expand the use of its payment system abroad.  Also, Mir cards in Turkey were accepted by the state banks Ziraat Bankasi, VakifBank and Halkbank. On September 27, the Turkish NTV channel reported that the state banks had decided to withdraw from the Russian payment system on Tuesday morning, but it has not yet been officially announced.
