Rubezh-2021 CSTO exercise started in Kyrgyzstan

Military servicemen began a joint exercise with the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces (CRDF) of the CSTO Rubezh-2021 at the Edelweiss training range in Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Central Military District (CMD) said in a statement on Tuesday.


"A joint exercise with the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces (CRDF) of the CSTO Central Asian region of collective security Rubezh-2021 has started at the Edelweiss training range in the Kyrgyz Republic. Military servicemen of the armed forces of the Republics of Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, and also operative groups of the Joint Staff and the CSTO Secretariat take part in the exercise," the statement reads.


During the exercise, the contingents of the CSTO will conduct joint planning and preparation for a military operation. During the practical stage, issues of blocking and destroying combat groups and detachments of illegal armed formations invading the territory of a CSTO member state will be practiced.


The core of the Russian military contingent at the exercises is servicemen of the Tuvan mountain motorized rifle brigade of the Central Command, as well as personnel of the united Russian military base stationed in Kyrgyzstan. About 500 servicemen and more than 120 units of armament and military hardware including six units of aviation technology participate in the exercise on behalf of the Russian Armed Forces. Attack airplanes Su-25 and transport helicopters Mi-8 of the joint Russian military base Kant will provide support to ground units and air reconnaissance in the training area.


The exercise will end on September 9.


The Central Asian region collective security force is designed to carry out tasks to ensure the military security of CSTO member States, including participation in repelling external military aggression and carrying out joint counter-terrorist operations.
