US Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged that the conflict in Ukraine has effectively become a proxy war between the United States and Russia.
Speaking to Fox News, Rubio said: "President Donald Trump believes this is a prolonged conflict that has reached a stalemate. To be blunt, it's a proxy war between two nuclear powers — the US, which is backing Ukraine, and Russia. And this situation needs to end."
Rubio also criticized the current approach, saying both Kiev and the US Congress, as well as other countries, had operated under the assumption that the solution was simply to "keep giving Ukraine everything it needs for as long as necessary." According to Rubio, "That’s not a strategy."
