Russia and Egypt Discuss Palestinian-Israeli Conflict at UN Platforms

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and Egyptian Ambassador to Moscow  Nazih el Nagari held discussions on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, specifically focusing on considerations within the UN Security Council (UNSC) and General Assembly (UNGA). This was outlined in a report by the Russian foreign ministry following their meeting on March 18.

 

"The interlocutors extensively discussed the current situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone, emphasizing the importance of addressing these issues within the frameworks of the UNSC and the UNGA," the ministry stated.

 

The diplomatic department underscored that both parties reiterated their principled stance in support of an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, along with the provision of unimpeded and sufficient assistance to all victims and those in need. Additionally, they emphasized the revitalization of the settlement process based on universally recognized international legal principles, with a central focus on a two-state solution.

 

Furthermore, there was an exchange of perspectives on the situation in Libya and the endeavors of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, the Russian foreign ministry concluded.

 

The meeting was convened at the request of the Egyptian ambassador.
