Russia and France confirmed their support for a two-state settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict

Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov received head of the Directorate for North Africa and the Middle East of the French Foreign Ministry Christophe Farnaud.


According to the Press Service of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the talks were focused on the situation in North Africa with an emphasis on the crisis in Libya as well as the developments in the Persian Gulf, Iraq, Lebanon and Algeria.


The parties noted the need to promote comprehensive and non-confrontational approaches to solve the existing problems in the region in strict compliance with the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the local states.


The Russian and French sides reaffirmed their principled position in support of a two-state solution to the Palestine-Israeli conflict based on international law, including the corresponding UN Security Council resolutions, Madrid principles and the Arab Peace Initiative.
