13 March 2020

Moscow and London are in touch to discuss holding a meeting of the leaders of the permanent members of the UN Security Council. This is stated in a message published in the Telegram channel of the British Embassy in Moscow.

"The UK generally supports the idea of a meeting of the heads of state of the permanent members of the UN Security Council to discuss issues of international peace and security. We are in touch with the Russian government to discuss further details of this proposal," the statement reads.

Russian President Vladimir Putin made a proposal to hold a summit of permanent members of the UN Security Council in 2020 on January 23 during the World Forum in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. The initiative has already been supported by the UN leadership, as well as France and China.
