The need for an equitable world order and a multipolar world is a basic issue for Russia and is understood in Iran, Volodin told reporters following a meeting of the inter-parliamentary commission on cooperation between the State Duma and Iran's Parliament in Tehran on Monday.

"We oppose hegemony and consider it right to unite parliamentarians of all countries so that we do our best to protect the sovereignty of each country. So that each nation is free to choose its own government, free to determine its own future. These issues are basic for us, and we find understanding in them from our Iranian colleagues," Volodin said.

He stressed that Russia stands for "a just world order and a multipolar world." According to Volodin, these issues are also very important for other states.

"Only a sovereign state can ensure human development on the basis of its culture, history, language, with respect for its traditions and religion. A country that has lost its sovereignty will not be able to do this, the citizens of this country will be forced to practice religion, culture, traditions, teach the history of the country that enslaved them," Volodin stressed.

The speaker of the State Duma is in the Iranian capital on an official visit. Volodin arrived in Tehran heading the State Duma delegation on Sunday.
