Russia and Iran Lead Tourist Flow to Turkey in the First Months of the Year

According to statistics published on the website of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, Iran and Russia have emerged as the top countries contributing to tourist arrivals in Turkey from January to February.

 

During the first two months of the year, 437.9 thousand Iranian citizens and 433.6 thousand Russian citizens visited the republic, constituting 10.09% and 9.99% of the total number of foreign tourists, respectively. Interestingly, in February 2024, the proportion of Iranian tourists increased by 4%, while the proportion of Russian tourists decreased by approximately 3%.

 

Other countries in the top five include Bulgaria (345,000), Germany (330,000), and Georgia (207,000).

 

Comparing to the same period last year, there has been a significant decrease in tourist arrivals from Israel (86%), Sudan (38%), and South Africa (12%). Conversely, tourist arrivals from the People's Republic of China increased by 200%, Saudi Arabia by 104%, Turkmenistan by 84%, and Japan by 82%.

 

Overall, the total number of guests arriving in Turkey from January to February reached 4.3 million. Turkish authorities had previously announced their ambition to host and accommodate 60 million tourists in 2024.
