An agreement to resume passenger road and railway service was reached in Moscow during the 22nd meeting of the Russian-Kyrgyz intergovernmental commission on trade-economic, scientific-technical and humanitarian cooperation, the press service of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers reported on Friday.
"The parties decided to resume in the nearest future railway and road passenger service between the two countries, taking into account the sanitary and epidemiological situation," the document said. Passenger service between the two countries was suspended in the spring of 2020 due to the pandemic coronavirus infection.
"As a result of the meeting of the intergovernmental commission it was decided to create a bilateral working group of the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic and JSC "Institute Hydroproject" to prepare a road map for the joint implementation of projects in the field of hydropower in order to implement the national development program of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2026," notes the press service.
Participants of the meeting also agreed to send a catalog of Kyrgyz light industry enterprises with "the nomenclature of products" to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation for "increase of mutual trade with light industry goods", and also within two months to "work out the issue of technical support of introduced during the first phase of cooperation information systems to facilitate the development of the system of tax administration" in Kyrgyzstan. In addition, the Russian side, following the meeting, agreed to "consider the possibility of increasing from 500 to 700 quotas" for Kyrgyz students in its universities.
"In order to intensify interstate trade and economic partnership and increase trade, the parties decided to sign a program of economic cooperation between the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian government for 2022-2026 at the upcoming ninth Kyrgyz-Russian interregional conference in Ekaterinburg on June 8-10, 2022," the report emphasized.
The next meeting of the intergovernmental commission of Kyrgyzstan and the Russian Federation will be held in 2023 on the Kyrgyz territory.
