Russia and Pakistan have confirmed their readiness to further strengthen military cooperation, Russian deputy defense minister Alexander Fomin said following a meeting of the Russian-Pakistani military advisory committee on defense and security issues held in Islamabad on Wednesday.
"A wide range of issues related to the military and political situation in Afghanistan were discussed in a deep and constructive manner," Fomin said, noting that "the need to deepen our interaction is due, among other things, to the rapid development of the situation in this country."
The Russian deputy defense minister stressed that the issue related to the situation in Afghanistan is one of the most important on the political agenda, and in this connection, the development of constructive relations between Russia and Pakistan is an important factor in ensuring regional stability.
" During the talks, we gave a positive assessment of the dynamically developing mutually beneficial relations in the military sphere and reaffirmed our aspiration to make the best use of the existing potential for strengthening the military cooperation," he said.
The deputy minister emphasized that regular political dialogue and constructive interaction both in bilateral format and within international organizations, including the United Nations and the SCO, set the vectors for the development of relations between Moscow and Islamabad in the military sphere.
"The progressive development of relations between our states and military agencies is an important factor in ensuring regional stability," Fomin noted.
He drew attention to the fact that Pakistan is one of the few states with which, despite the serious epidemic situation around the world this year, the planned joint activities continued to be actively pursued.
Fomin expressed appreciation for the traditionally high Pakistani representation in events organized by the Russian military in 2021. According to him, bilateral meetings held in recent years have contributed to increasing contacts between the Russian and Pakistani armed forces in such areas as joint exercises of ground forces and naval forces, as well as strengthening ties through general staffs.
