Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Sierra Leone Foreign Minister David Francis signed an interstate agreement on visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic and service passports in Moscow on Monday.

"The agreement on waiving visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and service passports was signed in your presence. We also talked today about the advisability of signing several other documents that are in the works," Lavrov said at a press conference after talks with Francis.

Food aid from Russia

Russia's Emergencies Ministry will deliver a shipment of food aid under the UN World Food Program to the port of Freetown in a few days, Lavrov said.

"We will continue to assist Sierra Leone in solving humanitarian problems, including food deliveries under the World Food Program. In just a few days, the next EMERCOM ship will deliver a consignment to the port of Freetown," he said.

Humanitarian aid and supplies of Sputnik V

Freetown is grateful to Moscow for timely humanitarian aid and supplies of Sputnik V vaccine amid a difficult epidemic situation, Francis said.

"Let me thank Russia on behalf of the government and our people for the humanitarian aid that was sent to us, particularly the coronavirus test systems that were delivered to us in the amount of 10,000 units, which we received at a time when we needed it most," he said.

The minister conveyed Russian President Vladimir Putin Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio's "personal appreciation" for the supply of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. "We know that you are also going through difficult times, but you have always supported us, we hope to continue that support," Francis added.
