"The future of our relations with Russia is promising, both in the political and economic fields," Muallem said. "Meeting of the Russian delegation with President [of Syria Bashar] Assad was productive and constructive and concerned various aspects of bilateral cooperation. < ... > We agreed to continue implementing projects in the economic sphere," he added. According to him, the parties also discussed the political situation in Syria and in the Middle East region as a whole.
Earlier, Sana news agency reported that during the talks in Damascus, the Russian and Syrian sides discussed the implementation of previously signed agreements and efforts to reach new bilateral agreements. "Moscow and Damascus expressed their mutual desire to raise the level of cooperation so that it fully meets the interests of the friendly peoples of Russia and Syria," the agency said in a communique.
