Russia and Tajikistan to Jointly Develop Training Standards for Tourism Specialists

07 September 2023

Russia and Tajikistan have signed an agreement to jointly develop professional standards for training specialists in the tourism sector. These standards will later be proposed for implementation in CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries. The agreement was reached at the international forum titled "New Stage of Cooperation of the CIS Member States in the Sphere of Tourism" in Dushanbe.

The agreement was signed between the Russian Autonomous Nonprofit Organization "Center of Competences in the Sphere of Tourism and Hospitality" and the Tajikistan state enterprise "Information Center of Tourist Services." The primary goal of this agreement is to harmonize training requirements and create regulatory documents and professional standards to ensure the quality of personnel training.

According to Elena Vasilyeva, the Director of the Russian center, this is the first such agreement between the Russian center and an organization from a CIS country. The developed standards will be integrated into training programs at universities, technical schools, and additional education programs. This initiative aims to enable graduates from specialized educational institutions in any CIS country to find employment in the tourism sector in other CIS countries.

The Center of Competence in Tourism and Hospitality, based in St. Petersburg since 2022, is Russia's sole specialized center of international stature. Its objectives include supporting the hospitality industry, enhancing its competitiveness, elevating the quality of education in the tourism sector, and assisting established professionals in acquiring new work methods.

The Tourism Forum in Dushanbe, held on September 7-8, brought together representatives from the tourism industry and authorities of CIS member states. Panel sessions at the forum covered topics such as joint tourism product development, digitalization of tourism services, and the establishment of tourism clusters. Additionally, an exhibition titled "Dushanbe - Tourist City" was inaugurated as part of the forum's activities.
