Russia and Turkey discussed the situation in Syria, Nagorno-Karabakh, the Palestinian-Israeli settlement and Ukraine at the consultations of the Foreign Ministries. This is stated in the commentary of the Russian Foreign Ministry distributed on Wednesday following the meeting held the day before.
"A set of issues of international assistance to resolve the Syrian, Nagorno-Karabakh, Palestinian-Israeli and other regional crises, political aspects of their settlement on the basis of international norms and relevant UN Security Council resolutions were discussed in detail," the Ministry said.
"The Russian side emphasized the need for a balanced approach to the situation in southeastern Ukraine and the inadmissibility of supporting Kiev's militarist aspirations and various anti-Russian initiatives," Smolensk Square added.
Moscow and Ankara, in the context of the discussion of the situation in the Transcaucasus, Ukraine and Central Asia, confirmed the mood for further coordination of efforts to strengthen peace and stability in these regions. "High praise was given to the activities of the Russian-Turkish Joint Center for Ceasefire Control and all military actions in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. It was agreed to continue work on unblocking economic and transport ties in Transcaucasia," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The parties also "agreed on the importance of maintaining the dynamics of the Russian-Turkish political dialogue, resumption of full scale air communication between Russia and Turkey along with normalization of the sanitary and epidemiological situation. The diplomats agreed to continue contacts to discuss bilateral issues, stressing the importance of enhancing cooperation in fighting the consequences of the spread of coronavirus infection, including the establishment of joint production of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V in Turkey.
Consultations were held on June 8. Deputy Foreign Ministers Sergey Vershinin, Alexander Grushko, and Andrei Rudenko participated on the Russian side, while Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal participated on the Turkish side.
