Russia has already initiated consultations with the new BRICS members, including Argentina, Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia, which are set to become full-fledged members of the organization starting January 1, 2024. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov shared this information with TASS.
Bogdanov mentioned that the consultations have begun, with more substantive discussions set to take place from January 1 onwards. He expressed that the new BRICS members are enthusiastic about their accession and are content with the decision.
The deputy foreign minister also emphasized the importance of familiarizing the new members more profoundly with the practices and experiences of working within BRICS. Moscow intends to ensure that the new members actively engage in the organization's objectives and their own national interests as they join BRICS.
Bogdanov highlighted that countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and others, being powerful nations, have the potential to make substantial contributions to the collective financial efforts of BRICS.
Russia plans to host approximately 200 events during its BRICS presidency, encompassing various domains, including parliamentary, sports, and youth activities.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had previously stated that Russia would establish early contacts with the new members before January 1, 2024, when Russia officially assumes the BRICS presidency. Lavrov stressed the importance of ensuring that all members are well-versed in the substantive issues of the organization by the upcoming BRICS summit in Kazan.
