Russia chairs the CSTO

Russia took the chairmanship of the Collective Security Treaties Organization (CSTO).


Russian Representative Andrey Shvedov succeeded Kyrgyz Representative Aman Mambetseitov as Chairman of the CSTO Permanent Council.


"As Russia takes over the chairmanship in the CSTO in 2019-2020, Russia's Permanent Representative to the Organization - Ambassador at Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Andrey Shvedov was elected chairman of the CSTO Permanent Council. Envoy of Kyrgyzstan handed him a wooden hammer symbolizing decision-making of the CSTO Permanent Council, " TASS quoted CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov as saying.


On December 5, the working meeting of the CSTO foreign ministers to be held on the sidelines of the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting in Bratislava.


The CSTO includes Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
